One month in

One month in.

How have I gone?

January is usually an easy one.  A lack of celebrations and parties.  Everyone is still trying to stick to their new years resolutions.  Dry Jan becomes damp Jan. And soon we are in Feb.

I've not found it hard.  There hasn't been too much on. Just a couple of birthday parties-one ending with banoffee pie - a true test of one of my favourites.

I walked away feeling a sense of achievement.  There was loads of left overs which I knew only meant one thing - If I'd of been eating it, I would have finished the lot.  So there's the positive which is linked to one of my big reasons for this - I am an all or nothing person.  To say no wasn't hard....but to have had one piece would not have been an option.

Anzac day celebrations at school? Luckily not a fan of Anzac biscuits or lamingtons - but in the past I would have eaten them all anyway just because. Steak and cheese pie on the other hand.....

The ease of it has also perhaps been helped by the fact that I had a sneaky weekend away in Hoi An where I fully enjoyed the sugar laden street food.... banana crepes, mango mochi (funnily enough, no mango, just full of peanut and sugar. Heaven), and of course Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk.

This weekend is my first brunch of the year.... lets see how I go with resisting a molten chocolate cake after the prosecco has been flowing in full force.

A new year, a new resolution?

A new year, a new resolution?  Not really. For the past few years, I have been on a mission to eliminate unnatural/added sugar from my life.  Like any normal person, it's come in peaks and troughs.  Through learnt discipline,  I would say now in more peaks than troughs. Many people ask WHY? Why punish yourself? Many people say Just enjoy life.  You only live once.  It won't kill you. Relax. So why? Amongst many other reasons such as...... 1. It's unnatural.  Our bodies weren't designed for the amount of sugar consumption that we are exposed to every day.  2. Most of the things that sugar comes with aren't good for us either. 3.  It contains zero nutrition.  It actually does nothing positive for our health. The MAIN reason in my fight against the sugar is how it makes ME feel as an individual.  Over the years I've learnt that my body doesn't respond well to refined carbohydrates/added sugars.  White bread, whit...

The "Rules"

The "RULES" Simplicity.  This is my true belief to success.  As soon as rules get complicated, they're easy to bend.  And so my rules are very simple. The Rule: 1. No desserts/sweet foods with refined sugars. Unrealistic - agreed. After much huffing and puffing, do I or don't I's? I came up with three exceptions. We all know I love a good holiday as much as a good meal.  The Exceptions :  1. The rules don't apply whilst overseas for home-made foods.  Why not? Because life is an experience.   And I want to live life .  It simply means I can enjoy trying local delicacies, but it's not to say hop on a plane a crack open the coke and oreos. 2. Dark chocolate (70% cocoa and above) Why?  Because I enjoy it. Every night I have a couple of squares of dark chocolate and I don't believe this habit has a negative impact on my health.   3. Christmas is when it ends Why? Because I do believe there are times ...
